CORPUS CHRISTI

These portraits draw inspiration from the story of the "Diablicos Sucios" (Dirty Devils) of Panama, a tradition that dates back to the Spanish colonization. During the Corpus Christi celebrations, priests organized festivals to teach the concept of good versus evil. The name "Diablicos Sucios" comes from their unique attire. They wore dirty cloths painted with red stripes made from annatto and black stripes from charcoal. As they danced, the sweat caused the colors to smear, leaving them with their iconic "dirty" appearance. This artwork captures the essence of this fascinating tradition.
